Baseball was invented by Abner Doubleday in Cooperstown, New York in the summer of 1839.
Doubleday went on to become a Civil War hero, while baseball became the National sport of America.
-The problem with that story is, that it’s simply not true. Doubleday was still a cadet in West Point (Military Academy) and never claimed to have anything to do with baseball. The myth was started by a commission created by former MLB player turned business man: A.J. Spalding. So how the real story goes, is still a mystery. The primary testimony to the commission, which connected Doubleday with baseball, was of Abner Graves. Some of the confusion could come from those two guys having the same name in Cooperstown in 1839.
